my new home

Yes it's been a while but you are welcome to come
in and see my new home.
Although it is over 100 years old it is in great condition
and it is just perfect for me.

There are no new, modern doors in this house.

The crooked walls are the perfect place for
 displaying vintage pieces.

There are weird little nooks and ledges everywhere.

An orange tree is almost ready to be stripped of her fruit.

The kitchen is tiny but so very cozy.

The front gate welcomes me home with all its character.

It also appears that the cat is settling in too.

Love my new home and can't wait to show you more!

PS. I can't find my camera again so these are photos from my instagram
account. I will find my camera soon but in the meantime
follow along on instagram for more photos of my dream home.

PPS Thanks for sticking around I know it's been a long time
since I've posted here xxx

vintage sheet pillowcases

I have a few lovely vintage sheets and as hard
as it is sometimes to cut into them I know
I should sometimes.

I don't just hack into them for no reason
I like to make something special with them
like my lounge pants or my dressing gown. or even
doing up some old bookshelves.

It's been a while since I have made a pillowcase
or my medication is making me dopier than usual
but the part where you fold the pieces over to make the
flap so you don't see the pillow inside
was doing my head in!

I got it eventually but have left myself this little diagram
here to remind myself because I need to make
lots more pillowcases.

But for now I think I'll just rest on these lovely, soft ones.

Don't forget the sign ups for the Creative Challenge
close on this Sunday.
Read all about it here.
I'd love for you to play.

fun for the whole family

I'm only a very basic knitter but the old knitting
needles that can be found in op shops
seem to find their way home with me
and I now have quite a collection.

So of course my mind wandered to a styrofoam ball

all covered in wool

with some old needles poking out and

even looking a bit like a strange planet outside...

We needed something new at our house
 to whack our heads on.

not your average nana

I picked up this great but ratty stool at a garage sale.

When I posted a photo of it on instagram
the main response was "my nan had one of those"!

I never met my nan but

I like to imagine she was a fun and funky nan

so I hope she'd like what I've done to the stool.

we all fall down

My favourite part of Christmas is the decorating.

These old, old Christmas trees of mine have seen better days.
Each year I drag them out and each year when they're not falling
over they just look very uninspiring.
I have had these daggy trees since I was a tiny thing
so I couldn't really get rid of them and I could have
sprayed them but then they wouldn't be the same.

I just gave them a very good dust and popped them into
some jars I had and poured some rock salt in the base.
This has kept them the same and stopped them falling over
but now they look really pretty sitting on a mirror.

I can't wait till I can start decorating for real!
When do you start?

the one where I have something to show you

On the off chance that I may have another hospital visit
I went on the search for a Summer dressing gown.
The stores in my parts are very limited so I was out of luck
and decided to make my own from my stash of vintage sheets.

A tiny pom pom trim was added for a little zing
and nice big pockets.

It is so lovely and soft and worn.

It's almost as beautiful as my daughter who is modelling it for me.

trust me

I don't really know what to tell you about my latest craft project.
I love old cutlery especially spoons and I have lots of them.
When I came across some little spoon charms I thought I'd like
to combine the new with the old and hang them in the kitchen.

To say I was thrilled with the result is an understatement.

They tinkle and shine and swirl around.

But they are very , very hard to get a decent photo of.
So you'll just have to take my word for it that they are beautiful!

let there be light ........or maybe not

One of my favourite Vinnie's had this light fitting in their shop.
It sat there winking at me every time I went in there .
Unfortunately I don't have a light that this will fit on.

It continued to taunt me for weeks until I brought it home.

I turned it upside and poured a few buttons in.

I kept pouring....

I poured some more....

lucky I have so many buttons .

where?

I'm all over the place at the moment .

Trying to make decisions .
Thinking about new directions.

School still has a week until it goes back so I have
been enjoying spending time with my teenagers .
I have enjoyed it and I'm not joking either !

I managed to finish a new pillowcase made from vintage sheets
with a cotton crochet trim , simple you would think .

I undid and redid the trim at least three times because I
wasn't happy with it .

Sometimes things are ok just the way they are .

How are things with you ?
Are you ok ?
Would you like a rest on my pillow?

lounging about

Summer holidays , kids are home and the cricket is on .

Lots of lounging about has been done .

I feel a little more justified lounging about now
that I have made myself some lounging pants.

These were made from a vintage sheet and
are so very soft and light.

How are you spending the holidays ?
