Dr Phil can you help ?

I live in a country town and we don't have a fabric store .

I shop at Spotlight, an hours drive away,

 about 3 times a year .

The internet and blogs are my stores and I spend way

too much time and money in them .

This the part where you feel really sorry for me .

I have never seen designer fabric on a bolt ,

how sad is that !

When I do receive fabric in the mail

I like to gaze at it lovingly .

It is spread out and then refolded .

It is placed beside other new fabric to

see what goes together .

I gaze at it some more .

It is eventually put into the stash

and then I am hesitant

to ever , ever cut into it .

My question for Dr Phil is ...

How much fondling is acceptable before

it just becomes creepy ?

my creative space

My creative space is a little more colourful this week.

I'm making little makeup purses that will

be lined in this spotty polyester and the purses

will have these funky zip tags .

The spots are scarves and the tags are odd earrings

both found at the $2 shop clearance bin .

Tuesdays Treasures

I don't know that this is really a treasure

so much as a coincidence .

Many years ago we were given this tin of biscuits

by my husbands auntie who has since passed away

this year at the age of 93.

 Almost 15 years ago I was co-ordinator of

the local playgroup and took this tin , empty of course ,

to have as a collection tin for funds etc .

My kids are in highschool now and

I had never given this tin another thought until

my son arrived home from a youth council meeting

where he was elected treasurer .

While he was at the meeting local council

members asked him to make a point of showing

his treasurers tin to his mum .

Yes , same tin !

At my house

At my house I am taking control .

I am saying no to coming to work just because

someone else feels like a day off .

I need time off too .

I am saying no to inappropiate text messages

to my 12 year old nearly 13 year old daughter

who thinks she is 18 years old .

I have taken matters to the police .

I am saying no to xbox on school nights to the boy .

Study or help at home .

I am saying no to everyone this week .

Ask me something , the answer is no !

I am a good mother , wife , employee , friend ,

community member .

I think I'll even be better when I can sometimes say no

and say yes to things that can be good for me .

tuesday treasures

As some of you may know my dear mum has

just moved into a nursing home .

With her blessing her possesions were sorted

and lots of stuff was distributed amoungst the family .

I went to see my mum in her new place recently

and when I arrived home there was a parcel

waiting for me from my eldest sister .

In the parcel was the one and only wedding photo

of my parents , not a copy , the original .

There were also very old family photos and photos

of my dad when he joined the Army at 18 .

There were lots of documents and memorabilia .

I feel very honoured to be trusted

with all these special things .

I've been sitting in this chair a lot .

Cuddling this poor sick child .

Seeing very bland meals .

At my house today we are happy to be home .

I am happy my girl is on the mend .

I think grateful day was on Saturday but

at my house today there is gratitude .

colourful fridays

Rushing through to show you my greens .

I cheated a bit this morning as I really needed

to clean one of the jugs .

Gotta go !

Man oh man !

I've always wanted one of these mannequins

to display all my expensive jewellery

but I didn't like to the way the ends of

the necklaces dragged at the bottom .

All I had to do was place the man

on top of a cakestand and now

I don't have the dangle and I also have a place

to put other little bits .

It looks pretty too !

Clearly it doesn't take much to make me happy .

I very very lucky to be partnered with Loreen in 

Lisa's colour swap . Loreen sent me 

all these lovely colourful things from New Zealand .

Look carefully at this ball , it is all yo yos 

attached to a styrofoam ball .

It must have taken hours and I love it !

My yo yo ball will be starring at my home this Christmas .

tuesday treasures

I hear you saying that pretty , sparkly butterfly

is a treasure indeed but sorry

that's not my treasure this week.

It's The Lump that's holding the butterfly that is my treasure .

My daughter made this for me her first term of highschool

and didn't she have fun with it !

Apparently there was so much laughter

in the class at my girl saying her mum would

love her work no matter

how ugly it was .

It was refered to during the classes when

they were being made as The Lump .

Now when my daughter is looking for

hairties or pins she is told to look in The Lump .

It is just a silly family joke

but I really do love The Lump !

Coconut Ice

I love this soft chenille and thought I'd crochet

it in granny squares for a lovely soft blanket .

It was very cheap wool and dreadful

to work with and it kept breaking .

Admitedly I am not an expert crocheter

but the squares all ended up looking like

they had breasts .

So I took them apart and started on a scarf .

By now I'd gotten the hang of the cheap wool

and my scarf grew .

And then I liked that it was a bit bigger and

soft on my lap so I kept going .

Finally this is what I ended up with

and my daughter has claimed it .

She also said how nice her room looked

in the photo .

Don't worry I set her straight and let

her know all about cropping photos .

yesterday

You may have gathered yesterday I wasn't that

thrilled about going to work .

I'm glad I did because look who came to visit me !

This little roo is about 9 months old and the sweetest

thing you'd ever see !

The other Skippy (Geoff Huegel did

very well in the swimming

yesterday too .)

I also managed to get a little bit done with this .

All will be revealed soon

but not tomorrow.

That's some of me from yesterday ,

Colourful Fridays

I thought I'd like to join Robyn in Colourful Fridays

but there is a small problem that I go out

to work on Fridays .

All the other players have put so much

effort into their colourful posts and they look great .

I know I just don't have the time or patience

so I have set myself a challenge .

I gave myself 5 minutes and set the buzzer on the stove .

Ran around like a crazy woman gathering up

the colour for the day and took a photo .

Uploaded it as quickly as possible .

Write post , let Robyn know I'm playing ,

add link and drink more coffee .

Just thought I'd tell you all this in case you happen

by my blog on a Friday and you see a lump of colour ,

you'll know it's Fast Colourful Friday here .

tuesday treasures

My treasure this week is this grubby old scrabble board .

My mum has moved into a nursing home and

things from her home have been shared around .

Of great interest was this board .

You probably can't see too well in this photo

but every little space around the board has

been written on .

It became an unspoken rule that the board

itself not be written on but around the outside

was fair game .

It has such silly stuff written like who was the

slowest player , who was the biggest whinger , biggest cheat

or just who was playing that day .

We spent many , many hours playing on this board

and drinking too much tea and laughing so much .

I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers and every one of us

had a great time on the weekend reading

the board and reminiscing .

I was lucky enough to score the treasured board

but I did promise to get it framed and

then we will all share it .

Clearly this board would mean nothing

to anyone else but to my family it is priceless !
