really, really easy comb cover tutorial

Do you scrabble around in the bottom
of your bag for your comb
and when you eventually find it it has all sorts
gunk over it?

Or is that just me?

Anyway I've been meaning to make a cover
for ages so I thought you might like to make one too.

First cut out one strip of fabric 20" long x 3" wide.
The size depends on the comb you will be using
just be sure not to make it too snug because
it would be a pain to be able to finally find your comb
and then not be able to get it out of the cover.

Trim corners.
Once you have turned it right side out and pressed it
fold it in half and press it again.
Now just stitch down the two long sides.
That's it!

Just pop your comb in and it will be so much easier (and cleaner)
to find in the bottom of your handbag.

These don't take a lot of fabric so they would be great for
Mother's Day stalls wrapped in celophane with a pretty comb.

or just for you!

easy tissue holder tutorial

Here's an easy tutorial for a tissue holder with a self facing trim
and these ones are lined so they aren't so flimsy.
Are you ready to make one or ten?

These are so good to have on hand as a little gift
or make a stack of them for fetes or Mother's Day stalls.

The longest part of making these is choosing the fabric!

these are a few of my favourite pins ~ skirts

I like skirts, I really do but I don't often wear them.
My clothing board on pinterest is bulging with
lovely skirts that I'd like to try and make one day.

Here are just a few of my favourites ~

Left ~ Elastic waist skirt from A Small Snippet.
Top right ~ Striped skirt from Life is Beautiful.
Bottom right ~ Easy tulle skirt from Everyday Reading.

Are you a skirt girl?

vintage sheet pillowcases

I have a few lovely vintage sheets and as hard
as it is sometimes to cut into them I know
I should sometimes.

I don't just hack into them for no reason
I like to make something special with them
like my lounge pants or my dressing gown. or even
doing up some old bookshelves.

It's been a while since I have made a pillowcase
or my medication is making me dopier than usual
but the part where you fold the pieces over to make the
flap so you don't see the pillow inside
was doing my head in!

I got it eventually but have left myself this little diagram
here to remind myself because I need to make
lots more pillowcases.

But for now I think I'll just rest on these lovely, soft ones.

I'd love for you to play.

no 1 ~ a treat for your sewing space

As I told you the other day I am doing the
2015 Bucket Sewing List with Whipstitch and no 1 is ~
A treat for your sewing space.
I'm still umming and aahing as I do about what to make and although there are no rules about this list being done in order I thought I'd have a look around for a treat for my sewing space.

Honestly the biggest treat my sewing space could have would be me actually sewing in it or at least tidying it up but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon so when I can get there I'll be ready to start ticking off that darned list.

I'm thinking a  new pincushion would be nice,

Or I may even whip up another sewing machine apron
and do a tutorial for you while I'm at it.
My Sewing Machine Apron was published
in Australian Handmade many years ago so you
may have missed it.

Or I may even make myself a new ironing board cover...

Have you been able to get near your sewing lately?
Are you doing the 2015 Bucket Sewing List?
Would you like the tutorial for the Sewing Machine Apron?

So many questions, so many decisions.
Just sew!

reading and sewing and sewing and reading

For me 2014 was a pretty crap year.
There, I've said it.

I didn't get much reading done and I certainly
didn't get much sewing done
and these are two of my favourite things to do.

I have declared 2015 my  year and
I hope it's your year too.

I'm joining in the

When you see some of the prompts you'll see why.
They are all easy and achievable, even for me!

2015 sewing bucket list ~ whip stitch

26 books to read in 2015 ~ bringing up burns

These don't need to be done in any particular order
and I can either do them or not.

We can blog our progress or share on Instagram.

What about you?
Are you in?

on my bucket list

Not long to go now people!
As with everyone else I have been very busy,
mainly working at the paying job but
trying to squeeze a bit of craft in too.

On my list for this week is to make a few of my buckets.
They are great to give as gifts filled with treats.
These are so easy to make I thought I'd link
back to my old tutorial in case you have time to make some too.

Enjoy the rest of your week , I hope you're having fun!

burp cloth tutorial

My nieces have been having babies
so I thought I'd like to make them something
very quick and easy and decided on burp cloths.
I really don't like the name burp cloths and I'm sure
when my nieces get these they won't call them that either
I'm thinking chuckers or chux but anyway I digress.

First of all I prewashed some fat quarters and some new white towels.
Then I cut the length of a fat quarter (about 22")
and the width of about 10 inches.
The same measurements were used for the towelling back.

I used Dickies towels for the backing although you can
buy towelling at Spotlight it's nice to support
Australian manufactures.

With right sides facing stitch around the two
pieces making sure you leave a gap for turning.
Trim corners and turn right side out.
Give it all a good press.

Top stitch all around about 1/2 inch from the edges
closing the turning gap as you go.

That's it!
So very, very simple but such useful gifts.

You'll have a pretty stack in no time.

want some ho ho with your yo yo?

I've been yo yoing.
These are so quick and easy to make and
because I don't need the sewing machine for them
I can hang out with everyone else and still make stuff.

I'm still not sure what colours to do this Christmas
but these red and white yo yos will be added to gift cards or...

I could just make them into a Christmas Tree!

yes I see you

Hello there I see you!
I'm making up some sunglasses cases for Christmas presents
and hopefully a few extra for my shop so I thought I'd pop
in and ask you a few questions about The Creative Challenge.

Did you know about it?
Did you play?
Would you like to play next time?
Would you like there to be a next time?

The creative challenge is not a competition
it is just for fun!
Follow the links in the post below I know you'll
 be amazed at the creativity.

If you have any questions please just ask
because the crafters that played had a great time.

In other very important news my son finished
the first stage of his training in the Navy.
The whole family went to see him marching at his graduation
and there was not a dry eye in the place.

When the heck did he get so much taller than me?

the one where I have something to show you

On the off chance that I may have another hospital visit
I went on the search for a Summer dressing gown.
The stores in my parts are very limited so I was out of luck
and decided to make my own from my stash of vintage sheets.

A tiny pom pom trim was added for a little zing
and nice big pockets.

It is so lovely and soft and worn.

It's almost as beautiful as my daughter who is modelling it for me.

oh deer

Oh deer me !
Time has gotten away again .
I was going to have the tutorial ready for my little craft bag
but I spent the day yesterday going around to garage sales
which is where I found this gorgeous deer .

The older man who was selling it told me many times
it was a very special deer because it was Eyetalian.
Yes he really said Eyetalian with great emphasis on the Eyetalian.
I was very close to telling him don't really care where
it came from as long as it was going home with me .

Anyway with me being so cosmopolitan and continental
and buying exotic items from garage sales I didn't get your tutorial done.
I will get my act together this week .

Also this week I will be having the giveaway for the Cosmo threads
and a few other bits and pieces .
The giveaway will be for Aussies only and you must be a follower .

You'll have to excuse me now I'm off to find a spot for my Eyetalian deer .

soon to be a .....

Well hello there , how are you ?

I've been making myself a little bag to carry small bits of craft in .
Not earth shattering stuff but it makes me happy to
make something just for me .

Do you make things for yourself ?

I'm enjoying it and even though I know no one else
is ever going to look inside the lining or examine the stitching
I'm still trying to do it all properly because I know it will
drive me crazy if I know I haven't done it right .

If this little bag turns out I may just do a tutorial for it
if you are interested ?

There is also a small giveaway coming up that
may just have something to do with these gorgeous Cosmo threads .

Seeya soon , thanks for coming over .

don't worry , be happy

Do you remember a while back I made a curtain for my laundry ?

Everytime I go into the laundry I admire my pretty curtain .

So when the curtain that backs my glass bedroom door fell to pieces
I thought I would just make another hankie curtain .

With my hankie curtains I don't measure .
I don't pin .
I don't worry too much about any of it .

This new curtain makes me so happy too .

It doesn't take much .

How are things with you ?

What's making you happy ?
