tuesday treasures

As this is my last Tuesday Treasures ,
as hostess anyway , I thought I'd
show you a couple of things that are
very , very important to me .
The poetry book is inscribed inside
by my parents for my 4th birthday .

My dictionary was given to me by my mum
for my 18th birthday .

The most important thing I was given was
a love of reading .
I am a huge reader and although I rarely
read much of great literary value
I don't really care as long as I get to read .

I read to my children a lot and they have
seen me with my head in a book forever
and thank goodness it has rubbed off on them
and they too have become great readers .
Although funnily enough I can't seem
to get them very interested in Henry Lawson
my favourite bush poet/storyteller .

Surprise !
Tuesday Treasures is not finished !
has generously offered to take over for me
as of next Tuesday , thanks so much Melody .

We'd love to see your link to your treasures
here this week and next week at Melodys .

tuesdays treasure

Recycling twice .
I know some of you may have seen this before
but it is still a treasure .
My box began as this daggy , dull piece .
A coat of white paint really freshened it up .

I then lined the lid inside and fitted my
 embroidery cottons in.
Why is it a treasure ?
Because my husband bought the box for me
from a garage sale many years ago
and because every time I'm looking for
threads I smile at my pretty new box .

Join in we'd love to see your treasure .

just so you know about Tuesdays on a Monday

As the silly season is racing towards us
I thought now might be a good time to wind up
Tuesday Treasures .
You have all made it so much fun and interesting
but I think what spare moments I have would
be better spent creating new treasures
instead of dusting off the old ones .
My last Tuesday as hostess will be
November 16th .
There are still two Tuesdays until then
so I'd love for you to play .

I couldn't do a post without a photo
and I thought I'd show off some of
my pretty crockery .
Gosh I love that word , crockery ....
I do use my pretty crockery all the time
it doesn't live in the cupboard .

I hope you join in tomorrow .

tuesday treasures

Another odd little treasure today .
I found this one day when my dad and I
were sorting some old coins .
I'll just bet I was a great help at 11years old !
Anyway my dad said I could have this gold brooch ,
I was very excited and felt very special
for all of about 10 minutes until I remembered
that my dad's birthday was coming up .
So what was I to do but sell it back to him ,
really I had some nerve even then !
With the princely sum of 40c I took myself off
and bought my dad a bottle of ink for his birthday .
I even remember I wrote so proudly in my diary
"I brought dad a bottle of Quink Ink for his birthday "
On the day of his birthday, after the excitement
of his new ink had worn off of course,
he handed me back this brooch and asked me
to mind it for him forever .

The ink was the last present I gave my dad
as he died 2 months later .

I am still minding his brooch forever .

Tuesdays Treasures

I don't know that this is really a treasure
so much as a coincidence .
Many years ago we were given this tin of biscuits
by my husbands auntie who has since passed away
this year at the age of 93.
Almost 15 years ago I was co-ordinator of
the local playgroup and took this tin , empty of course ,
to have as a collection tin for funds etc .
My kids are in highschool now and
I had never given this tin another thought until
my son arrived home from a youth council meeting
where he was elected treasurer .
While he was at the meeting local council
members asked him to make a point of showing
his treasurers tin to his mum .
Yes , same tin !

tuesday treasures

As some of you may know my dear mum has
just moved into a nursing home .
With her blessing her possesions were sorted
and lots of stuff was distributed amoungst the family .
I went to see my mum in her new place recently
and when I arrived home there was a parcel
waiting for me from my eldest sister .
In the parcel was the one and only wedding photo
of my parents , not a copy , the original .
There were also very old family photos and photos
of my dad when he joined the Army at 18 .
There were lots of documents and memorabilia .
I feel very honoured to be trusted
with all these special things .

All welcome to join in and show your treasures .

tuesday treasures

I hear you saying that pretty , sparkly butterfly
is a treasure indeed but sorry
that's not my treasure this week.
It's The Lump that's holding the butterfly that is my treasure .
My daughter made this for me her first term of highschool
and didn't she have fun with it !
Apparently there was so much laughter
in the class at my girl saying her mum would
love her work no matter
how ugly it was .
It was refered to during the classes when
they were being made as The Lump .

Now when my daughter is looking for
hairties or pins she is told to look in The Lump .
It is just a silly family joke
but I really do love The Lump !

Tuesdays Treasures

Another family treasure .
This weight was the doorstopper in the family
home when I was a kid .
It is now the doorstopper in my home .
I see my kids and husband casually slide it aside
with their foot and it takes me back
as I remember myself and my brothers and sisters
sliding it away years ago in exactly the same way .
Such a simple action brings back lovely memories .

I'd love to see your treasures but I
 am away at the moment
so I might be able to visit but not leave a comment .
I have very cleverly scheduled this post to
pop up on Tuesday .
I hope I have anyway , am I here ?

Tuesdays Treasures

I consider my scrapbooks treasures .
I have only done a few and really must do some more .
If ever there was a fire I would be grabbing these .
The kids school photos need to be done as
the plan was to do a page for each year so
when they are older their whole school life is in one album .
I have done pre school and play group pages but no school ones .
10 and 8 years of school means a lot of photos .
Maybe I should get a move on doing them
before they finish school .

Can't wait to see your treasures !

Tuesdays Treasures

My treasure for this happy Tuesday is this drawing my
son did for me almost 9 years ago .
He was so proud when I loved it so much that I framed it .
In fact I loved it so much I turned it into a stitchery
and he watched and sometimes helped .

My little artist is now almost 15 and is a healthy , responsible young man .
He is leaving this weekend for a school trip for 15 days
and although the house is going
to be so much quieter
I am going to miss him very, very much .

Tuesdays Treasures

In honour of Father's Day on Sunday my
treasure this week is one of my dads shirts .
My dad was a hardworking man but when we
saw him in this shirt we knew he was all ours for a bit .
All of my family remember the lovely hikes to the local
beach with dad who was often wearing this shirt .
We would spend hours looking in rockpools and just
hanging out together .
When my dad died I was obviously very upset
and slept with this shirt for many years .
It now lives in my linen cupboard and
is the only nice part of having having to change
sheets as every time I go to the cupboard
I see this shirt and smile .

All welcome to join in and show your treasures !

Tuesday Treasures

My treasure this week are these gorgeous plates .
My husband found these at a garage sale many years ago .
There are also a couple of dinner plates although
nowhere near a complete set .
My dear husband knows me so well that I
wouldn't care if it wasn't a complete set .
I can't wear matching socks so why would I worry
about matching plates .
My whole house is a hotch potch why should mealtime be any different !

Come and show your treasures , all welcome !

Tuesdays Treasures

I wear this treasure of mine every day .
My beautiful watch originally was given
 to my great Auntie Olive
in 1915 by her then fiance , before he left for war .
Sadly he never came home .

Short and sweet from me today .

Come along and play .

Tuesdays Treasures

Another treasure that I have no idea how I came by
all I know is I have had for such a long time .
If you are thinking , Clare's place must have a lot of junk , you'd be right !
This ceramic house must have been used as a cover for maybe butter at one stage .
Now it sits in my cabinet with all my other junk treasures .
I have never been interested in travelling overseas
and these days a night out is a rarity .
I am a real homebody and am very happy
to be at home with my crazy little family .
My house is not fancy in any way but it is full of love .
This little piece represents what I love most , my home .

Come and play .

While I ate my lunch .

I was eating my sandwich at work today and I was thinking I must get myself a treasure organised for Tuesday Treasures and maybe remind people it's coming up , most of the time I don't know what day of the week it is and thought maybe others are a bit like me .
Then I thought I don't like to do a post without a photo .
Then I thought what a good blogger I am to have my camera at work .
Then I thought I would show you my lunchroom .

Then I thought I'd show you the walls of my lunchroom.

Then I thought I really don't want to go back to work ,
 but I did .

Don't forget Tuesday Treasures , I think you'll be surprised !
Too much thinking ......

Tuesdays Treasures

I love marbles !
They are just so , you know , so shiny !
I've been collecting mine for a long time now
and found the sugar jar perfect to display them in .
When I started collecting them I made myself a rule
that if I wanted to gather them I must find them or be given them .
I cannot buy them .
It always makes my day when I find a marble as
most days I feel like I'm losing mine.

Tuesdays Treasures

You may be wondering how these beautiful flowers can be
part of Tuesday Treasures but these particular
blooms are very special to me .
When I was a little one I became very ill
with glandular fever .
On one of my worst days my dear old dad came
home from work with a bunch of daffodils just for me .
Not such a big deal some may think
but as I was one of eight
children I thought it was pretty amazing that one
little person among so many could be made
to feel so special and loved .
My dad at the time was very ill himself
and he died a few years later .
I can never see daffodils without
smiling and thinking of my wonderful dad .

Can't wait to see your treasures this week !
Yes I know it is still Monday but maybe it is
Tuesday somewhere !
The other reason I am doing this early as
I am flat out tomorrow and won't be
near a computer to do this post .
It also gives some new players a chance to
organise their treasure and add their link here .
I hope I have lots of blogs to visit tomorrow night
as I'll need some pleasant distractions after
the day I know I'm going to have tomorrow .
Have a Terrific Tuesday !

Tuesday Treasures

Thanks so much to all who came to play last week .
Some of you made me laugh and some made me cry but I really enjoyed visiting and seeing your treasures , it was also  nice to see that the others players were stopping over for a visit too .
I have a funny feeling that this game is going to grow and if it does and there are lots and lots more treasures to see I will try my darnedest to visit all but I may not always be able to stop for a chat .
I do hope you understand and please don't think I am being rude .

My treasure for this Tuesday is this gorgeous sugar bowl .
This belonged to my grandmother Daisy who died when my mother was very young
and it seems to that this is all that remains of her stuff .
My mum had it out for "special occasions" and all of us kids loved it .
I especially loved it when I discovered I could climb on the bench
and get into the cupboard and stick my wet finger into the sugar bowl , gross child !
Now here's the good bit (well I think so ) this is not my grandmothers sugar bowl !
A few years ago I came across this one in a second hand shop and it is identical to the one my mother still has .
I have to tell you I was so excited to find one that I almost had a little accident in the shop!

Don't be shy add your link and show us your treasures .
