This year has been a difficult one and as Christmas
draws closer as I have been thinking more and more
about my dear Mum .
I have been hanging on to some of her nighties that she
gave me last year as she wanted
the sleeves shortened on them.
I never did get to do them for her.
So I have decided to cut them up and make myself
a small quilt out of them as a Christmas present from her.
Yes some of the squares that I have cut
have tea stains on them.
No I will not be trying to get these small stains out.
Mum will understand xxx
Clare that made me cry - I'm SO glad you're doing this! I've often wished, since I started quilting, that I had held onto my dad's shirts for this very purpose. I'm so glad you have these!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteLovely idea Clare....was going to suggest something like that until I read what you've done. Special, special way to remember your Mum. My Mum is 97 this coming January and still in her own home. I know I probably haven't got her for a lot longer but feel very blessed to still have her. Enjoy every stitch hon! Jan xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea!
ReplyDeleteAww, that's such a beautiful idea.
ReplyDeleteChristmas and birthdays and special occasions are hard, aren't they? They do get less ouchey though as time passes.
Looking forward to seeing the finished project.
That's beautiful, what a lovely present to gift yourself from your mum!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, Clare. And I hope that little tea-stained treasure will make you laugh and smile more than cry.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea
ReplyDeleteTea stains will make it all the more special and yes a closeness to your Mum
Did you read my Blog where my bird of paradise had never flowered in ten years and it flowered on The 7th Nov which would have been my darling daughters birthday
xo
Very special indeed. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteOh, such a lovely idea....
ReplyDeleteHaving had a health scare with my mum this year, i's made me feel scared and a bit clingy, if I'm honest.
I'm sure she is looking down at you and smiling....she will love that you are keeping the tea stains...cups of tea shared over long chats and special moments together....love Melxxx
Clare your mum would love that you're doing that. What a very special quilt it will be - tea stains and all.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Joy xxx
What a smart thing to do....
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely idea. I do not have anything like that which I could make linking to my Dad.I will be honest and say that I am not looking forward to Christmas this year. It will the first birthday for me which he will not be there for, then it would have been his birthday in January. My daughter's birthday was last week and hubby's is on New Year's Eve. Too much in a short space of time really. Even probate has not gone through yet.
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to see the final quilt and many thansk for sharing this.
Take care
x
What a wonderful memorial for your Mom. She would love that you will have this quilt as a comfort!
ReplyDeleteOh Clare ... what a lovely thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI WISH I'd kept some of my mum or my dad's clothes to do this ... I'm trying to convince my sister in law to let me make her a quilt from my brother's shirts. He died last year.
You will love this quilt. It will be warm and comforting and remind you of the love.
xxx to you and the tea stains!
This is a lovely idea Clare. Wrapping yourself in your mothers love will bring you hours of joy .
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYou'll be able to have a cuddle on the couch when you need to.
Brilliant!
Just beautiful Clare.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, Kathy.
what a wonderful gift to give to yourself. i don't know the whole story of how your year has gone - but i get the idea of it. and the tea stains? just a little more of the memory of your mom to snuggle up with. i hope this quilt gives you many years of snuggling and comfort.
