It's all about doilies here today .
I found a few pretty ones the other day
and just left them in a bag in The Craftroom.
With all the rain on the weekend my floor was flooded .
Some of the doilies got wet but not ruined .
I thought what a shame it was that I rescued the doilies
from the opshop and then allowed
them to be neglected again .
Some of them are so beautiful and so much work
has gone into them I think they deserve a little better .
(Yes we are still talking about little bits of fabric here .)
So I will be in my creative space appreciating
my doilies and making new treasures from them .
Any suggestions ?

Such beautiful colours!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what you should do with them... I have the same problem here. (except mine are hand appliqued napkins. If you come up with any great ideas, let me know!
ReplyDeleteOk, so I did have a couple of ideas... a Table runnner, and clutch purses. Any good to you?
So glad you rescued them! Hmmm - what to do? ... in the meantime just lovely to oggle.

They are so gorgeous! I love the bullion roses embroidery! Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteHmm.... Perhaps you can use some of them as they are, just doilies! Or if they have marks and you don't mind cutting them up I have a friend who made a raggy quilt but instead of two squares sandwiched together with batting she sewed the strips onto the backing and batting in a quilt-as-you-go style with strips from her stash adding doilies and ricrac and ribbons/lace as she went. Hope that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteMaybe round ones can be filled with potpourri and tied with a ribbon, as scented sachets. What ever you make have fun!!!
You could just appliqued them on to a big quilt....The sashing of the blocks could be complementary colors to bring out the lovely flowers in the doilies. You are right though they are really gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSome of the larger ones would make gorgeous cushion covers or combine some smaller ones and applique them to a cushion front.
ReplyDeleteThe cross stitch oval(?) one with the dark blue borders would be a nice centrepiece sewn on a sewing machine cover.
They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDon't beat yourself up about getting them wet - you didn't intentionally flood your house. Hope you didn't get any damage from it. They are very beautiful!

Decorate skirts or jackets with them or cheescloth dresses. Make pockets with them. Share with friends. Dolls, bunnies, bags, quilts squares with doilies set to the side or just collect them and admire from time to time. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful and I am sure you will find the perfect project for them.
ReplyDeleteAll that gorgeousness could make lots of fun projects. Have fun playing.
ReplyDeleteI have a few of those with the blue cross stitch edge, if you need anymore let me know.

All completely stunning, gorgeous doily styling Clare, love Posie
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do with them, they are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to hoarding vintage doilies; holding, feeling, looking at and enjoying them. Then very occasionally I make something out of them. Right now I'm using them on cushions. Look forward to seeing what inspirational idea you come up with Clare.

they are really gorgeous one Clare.
ReplyDeletei am so help on what to do with them, but maybe the right thing will suddenly come to. look forward to whatever that is
They are lovely, Clare! I have a bunch too. Jenny made me a lovely journal cover, and part of the front is an old doily - it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love Allie's idea of making then into a feature for a journal cover and I hadnt thought of that before. I may just steal this idea for some doilies I have of my grandmothers. Theyre so beautiful Clare thatwhatever you do with them will look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty. I would cut them up and make a patch work cushion, combine them with your favourite fabric. That way you get to love them every day.
ReplyDeleteOh pretty! I dunno what you could do with them...little purses. I really like that cross stitch one.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I have seen quilts with doilles sewn on top. Charmaine
ReplyDeleteOh You always fill your blog with such pretties.

Beautiful doilies....
ReplyDeleteHow charming these little doilies are! They remind me a lot of a bag of old hankies I have. I bought them all (about 50) in hopes of making things out of them, but I don't have the heart to cut them up! hee hee hee! Good luck! :D Paulette
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how you framed them but I also liked some sweet bunting that I just featured on my blog (under Brisbane craft cafe).x
ReplyDeleteI incorporate pretties like these into little girls' dresses.
