I'm just not pretty enough !

Do you remember this post ?
I told you how Handmade did a profile on me and didn't include my photo , well it's happened again !
Patchwork and Stitching did my profile for vol 10 no 9 and no photo ! Are they trying to tell me something ?
I've received a lot of positive feedback from these profiles and even a few enquiries from craft stores wanting to stock my patterns (be still my heart , yay!)
One email I received was a bit so-so as the writer started out saying how talented I was but since I was so lucky to have been given all these great opportunities maybe I should be taking my business and in particular my blog a little more seriously .
All I can say to this is , yes there is luck involved , lucky I can work hard !!
Now all of you stop smiling and having fun, crafting is serious stuff .
Edited to add that the magazine was in no way at fault leaving out my photo I was totally to blame for sending them a poor quality photo .

  3. Your are doing all the right things Clare and just do what you want to do not what others think you should. But one thing tho....I reckon you gotta put up a photo of you on your blog just so we know who we are talking to and admiring :)

  4. Oh my That is exciting to be in a mag.
As for the person handing out advice,I say ....Sometimes life is just too short to be too serious all the time .
Some huge multimillionaires are the least serious people you'll meet.
Do your "Thang" girl....It does'nt seem to be hurting your success thus far eh?

  5. Ever thought that maybe you're too gorgeous and a photo will only detract from your wonderful creations! Keep doing things the way you are, it's obviously working!

  6. God forbid you should have any fun while you are doing something you are passionate about!! That would be just too much!!!

  8. Hello you gorgeous, gorgeous girl!!!

Sweetie, they didn't want to cast a shadow on your beautiful project by having an even-more-beautiful piccie of you to cast a shadow!!! It's a complement of the highest degree, sweetie!!!! :-)

Don't stop what you're doing - it's darn GREAT!!!! Good on ya sweetie! And don't we have great taste in blog backgrounds too?!!! he he he... (Yes you were first, I'm a copy cat from Ballarat!!) :-)

  9. Hey Clare! I think the mags are just enamoured with your gorgeous designs and can't see past them, that's why they overlook your equally gorgeous (I'm sure!!) photo of you! :0) As to your unsolicited advisor ... have they ever spent hours drawing up designs, choosing fabrics, taking notes, making samples, writing instructions, proof reading, been 'lucky enough' to have their hours/years of work recognised?!?! Frankly, until they have, they are in so position to give you advice. And besides ... there are way to many parts of being a grown up that have to be taken seriously, why add another! Keep enjoying your designing and hold onto the joy, cos when it becomes a chore, you loose your freshness. Bear Hugs! KRIS

  10. It's not that you're not pretty eough! It's that you're just not photogenic. Like me and my Mum and my gran and...I think it's inherited! Your poor kids!
And how dare that person tell you to take yourself more seriously! I love your blog as is, this is where you can let off steam and have fun! You've worked hard to get your patterns in magazines and I am damn proud of you!!!

  11. Congrats on another lovely profile Clare - regrettably without your photo. Time to put a pic on your blog sweetie.

On the other matter, those of us that matter know that nothing is achieved without lots of hard work and TALENT. No luck involved. I dare say your bubble burster has neither attribute!!

  13. That is amazing that someone would say that....so amazing....you are one talented person, talent has so much to do with this and...the love of it. If you take it too serious...then it is no more fun...Congrats to you and I hope you have continued success and please, don't forget us little people(ha!) I am sure what I said was exactly what you said but in a different way.!!! looking forward to many more years with you!!

  14. Damn, my internet has been so slow i've not been able to visit blogs or comment for a few days, so i've missed a few of your posts. Lovely work, gorgeous heart & ric rac!!
I rarely give magazines the chance to do a big close up on me & hide behind my children as a) they have my husband's great looks & b) they are the reason i do what i do!!
Like you, our craft speaks for itself, nuf said, we are beautiful to those who know us, who needs strangers staring & judging?? Love Posie

  17. Clare, You have made me smile. I love that you were able to buy all that ric-rac in a previous post. You lucky duck. Don't worry about those people who think it best to give you there opinion of something. They may not understand all the details that go into your work. Have a lovely weekend.

  22. If everyone were as talented and creative as you, we would all be in a magazine.
Hope the next time we will see a picture of you (O:

  23. Ignore the person who said that in their email. AND....I think they didn't put a photo so they'd have extra room for more written information about you......a photo would have taken up space and they couldn't have put as much typed info in the articles as they wanted to put there!

    ReplyDelete
  24. congrats clare...good that they atleast put your name...

clare...wait for something better....i know it will be hard to ignore this...but i'm sure there is somehting big in the store for you...

  25. I like your blog just the way it is and I think this other person is seriously lacking manners! Life is too short to go around being serious all the time anyway. Do they ask in advance before they feature you? If so next time insist on a piccy, i would like to see what you look like!

  26. Well congrats on being published, with or without a photo! I don't think I'd LET them use a pic of me....as for that email, sheesh, consider the source, I guess. People don't want to read a downer blog - yours is so happy and joyful, you need to keep it that way. You work hard enough at creating!

  27. Hi Clare, Congratulations on the magazine profile. In regards to the spoil sport, I like the fact that your blog is light hearted. As anyone who creates knows, sometimes in the design process if you don't laugh, you will cry. It's darned hard work. So stay your happy self, your followers love it!

  28. Congratulations Clare. You certainly deserve to be recognised for all your lovely work. Well done and keep up your sense of humour.

  29. congrats Clare, ha ha I am sure its not your looks kiddo...rofl...how exciting for you though...its funny how ppl react to things..I have ppl saying to me, must be lovely to sit and sew all day.."who do they think does the dusting, ordering, marking, classes, customer service, webpages, bookwork etc.
    gotta laugh!!
Keep having fun with your blog is my view..its great fun for us to read!!!
    Dont change a thing....
    cheers

  30. Congratulations on being published again.
Luck is identifying opportunities that are there and going for them!
Life is serious enough without making crafting too serious.
    Long live fun!

  31. Congrats Clare...
I agree with Jo in Tas..
Your work and creations says it all..

  32. Congrats on being published, there is always someone out there who is just a wee bit jealous of you and cant help themselves to be unkind.

We love you and what you do.

  33. :( Not nice that we didn't see a photo of you in the profile!
And isn't it terrible for someone to say such a horrible thing. My goodness, I don't think any of us would be in this craft business if it weren't fun!
Keep up the gorgeous work Clare. Most of us love it, and you.

  34. Hi Clare, I read the story! congratulations on it, picture or not!

  35. Way to go Clare! Good for you! As for Ms. Nasty Commenter...don't ya just love people who think like that? One can only hope that one day somebody craps on her parade one day and it turns a light on in her wee little thinking brain.
Anyway, kudoo's to Clare for all the hard work she does.
    Congratulations again!

  37. lots of hard works that's a definite!
hmmm, wouldn't worry too much about that one person, but isn't it always the case that we remember the negatives more than the positives.
    well done Clare!

  38. Even with luck, without talent and hard work it just isn't going to happen. Don't take any notice of one (ONE! out of loads!) kill joy.... there is always one somewhere waiting in the wings to rain on your parade! I like you blog and the moment we start to take anything too seriously, is the day we have lost womething very valuable... fun! suzie. xxx

  39. Well congratulations on the profiles!! Yes you are right there is luck, but you are talented and hard work is definitely involved!

  40. Oh to cute for the magazines. But keep up your hard work. You are a great inspiration to blogland and I love seeing what you do all the time.

  41. Clare I enjoyed the article and finding out about you. I am sure you are "pretty enough" and you could always post a pic on your blog and then we could print it out and post it on the article. lol

  42. Hey Clare...congrats on the mag profile! I would love to do that one day, youi are an inspiration!!! And I love your blog, DO NOT CHANGE IT!!! and that is an oreder LOL.

You know I seriously don't understand some people...they must be pretty miserable people themselves to want to make others feel bad...you know, the whole 'well if I'm not good enough, then no one should be good enough' thing...don;t worry hun, we love ya!

    ReplyDelete
  43. OOH Clare-I love your blog. Your enjoyment of craft and your family shows through. Keep doing what you are doing. Makes my day!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congrats Clare. Pity they didn't post a photo. Perhaps you could put one on the blog so we can see what you look like?

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's a terrible heading Clare, you naughty girl! Maybe next time take the photo straight after you've been at the hairdressers and get a more inspired photographer rather than your kids who think it's hysterical!

And what a cheeky sod, all your success if totally, like you say, all your hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Love your very practical pattern.
Your photo would be missing ONLY because of bad quality. LOL!
Now back to our "serious" craft.

  49. Hi Clare,
I always say if you cant say something nice then dont say anything at all. That nasty message isnt worth the time it took to either write it or read it. It is such a wonderful feeling when you open up a magazine and see something that you have taken time to make has been featured. Well done and keep up the inspiring work. Thanks also for the friendship you are a treasure.
    Big hugs
    Shelley
