This is possibly a bit scary for some as I am not a quilter and I won't pretend to be one but I'm trying string piecing , yes me !
I can see this may become a bit of a problem as I've had so much fun making these and you can use teeny , tiny scraps too !
I know I have probably broken every quilting rule with these "blocks" but who cares ?
Don't worry real quilters, if this turns outs bigger than a placemat I'll call it a blanket , lol !
gorgeous! love the different colours! I'm a totally self taught quilter and that's what is so great about it....just go for it!!!!
ReplyDeleteCorrie:)

ReplyDeleteClare, you're right..this may disturb some people, well I'm disturbed that I haven't got some of those lovely colours you've used. Good on you for having a go at quilting. But be warned! Quilting is like ice cream...you'll want more.... Kind regards, Anita.

ReplyDeleteLove your blocks Clare. When you put them together they look even more gorgeous. That's what quilting is about, using scraps. Check out Jan Mac's "Oz Comfort Quilts" and see how beautiful her QAYG look.

That is such a rewarding and satisfying way to use up scraps. Love your strippy squares. I just keep away from the quilt police - they're no fun to be around.
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks and colours, hope we get to see a "blanket" soon.
ReplyDeleteYou are not a quilter??? Never realized that. Wonder what is going to happen now you have started. Most people are hooked for life than. Can't wait to see your first blanket!

ReplyDeleteI've made many quilts and don't follow "the rules" either. At first I didn't know the rules, now I just prefer to do it my own way.
I love these blocks! It will be wonderful whatever you make!~ Don't let the thought of the quilt police intimidate you! YOUR Quilt, YOUR Rules :) I say, keep going:)

Rules can kill creativity! Actually, I have used this technique before to line inside of wicker picnic baskets. Many uses for this fun technique! Enjoy!

Rules? What rules? I think what you've come up with is beautiful. Rules are meant to be broken, when it comes to sewing anyway!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I love your creative blocks!
ReplyDeleteSticking to the rules all the time can be dull!
Happy New Year!xxx
Your blocks looks fantastic, can't wait to see them all come together.
ReplyDeleteHi Clare,
ReplyDeleteAh, good on you for having a go!
I'll be waiting to see how big your blanket turns out to be. LOL
Hugs,
Anna
"Real Quilters"? Whatever does that mean? Anyone who quilts with passion is real!!! (I HAVE to believe that because I am way stronger in the passion category than in talent)
ReplyDeleteThey are looking good - there are some pretty fabrics there. Keep us posted on the final result.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love so much about quilting and stitching - There are no real rules and we can just make it up as we go along. Great way to use up those scraps - Looking forward to seeing what it becomes.
ReplyDeleteXXXX HUGS - Fiona
Ignore those "real quilters" - they started somewhere less than perfect too you know (and some of us even continue less than perfect!). Your blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteMy Sister is the quilter in our family not me but to my untrained quilting eye it looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWho cares what you call it. It works, they are gorgeous, fun to make and use up scraps. Have a great weekend. X
ReplyDeleteThey look pretty good to me and I've just started on the quilting journey. hugs xxx
ReplyDeleteWell Clare, you might not have been a quilter before, but you are now! The blocks look great. I love your fabrics! Fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteThat does not scare me one bit....that is how you have fun. There are no rules to having fun. I don't think there are any real rules to quilting either....unless you are with quilters who like rules....I typically just leave the room then!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see you are having fun and that is what it is all about.
Smiles,
Kelly
It looks like fun Clare.

Oh Clare, this is my type of sewing.... Using scraps is a great idea and this project is perfect. I'll be back to check on your finished product.
ReplyDeletebahumbug - call it a quilt! I have not idea what string piecing is (another non-quilter) but those stringed pieces look very handsomely stringed and pieced to me.
ReplyDeleteI love the scrappy look!
ReplyDeletewow, I am going to do this to use up my massive stash of teeny tiny scraps, and to hell with it, I shall call it a quilt! I have been warned not to start another quilt until I finish off the others...but this is for a good cause, using up my scraps. What a fancy stripper!
