stamping memories

I came across some of my dads stamps the other day.

One of my nicest memories is seeing him over the
kitchen sink soaking the paper off the back of the
stamps he had collected.

He would then place them carefully onto a teatowel to dry.
I don't really know what he planned to do with them all.

These stamps meant so much to him that I thought it was
such a shame to have them sitting in a cupboard
never to be seen by anyone.

I've had such a lovely time using Mod Podge to stick them all to canvasses .
Now I will have them on the wall at home
and I will smile everytime I see them .

  1. They look fantastic! I bought so many odd stamps off eBay a long time ago for another craft project but never used them.... Wish I had done this! :)

  2. What a clever idea! I used to collect stamps as a child, this is a much better way to show off a collection than a stamp album (thought probably not as good for the value of them!)

  9. What a wonderful idea, Clare. So many lovely memories to recall. Stamps are miniature works of art. I always save them but apart from decoupaging a letter holder years ago haven't done anything with mine - now I will! Thanks.

  12. They do look great on the canvas and it will give you happy memories BUT as a stamp collector I just hope they were all doubles... There are some fabulous stamps there. I have just handed my whaole collection on to my GD.

  13. I love this idea, personal and decorative. I have a few canvases laying around, and mod podge (that I haven't even had a sip out of!), I really should try and think a bit more laterally about what to do with them.

  14. I like it. I used to collect stamps, and we have a heap in a box in the garage. I can understand why a collector would be bothered by it though. I remember really struggling to get the full set of the Christmas 1971 set (in your last pic, far right, fourth from bottom).

  15. I recognise a lot of those stamps and remember steaming them off the envelopes. I still have my Australian ones somewhere - sold my international collection on eBay. I too hope there weren't any rare ones, you'd upset the collectors with that glue! Looks good though.
