craft fail

My friend Jodie from Ric Rac first alerted
me to a condition known as E.I.T.T.T.S.

Every thing I touch turns to shit .

Personally I don't believe she has really ever suffered
from this as she is one of
the most talented crafters I know .

Anyway I seem to be suffering from
this condition in a big way .
Some of the things I have attempted lately
I can't even laugh at them yet but I know I will soon .

So instead of showing you still painful recent disasters
I thought I'd relive an old one .

Obviously this one is quite old as it has been a
while since my house has had a rustic , country theme.
Quite a while back I was a decorative painting teacher
and painted everything that would stay still and
this was how it was for my old cupboard here .
I whipped the doors off and took it to my Craftroom
to paint it with chooks and wire .

At the time I was very pleased with it and wanted
the cupboard completed as a surprise for the family .

It was all going to plan until I realised I'd
painted the design upside down on the doors
so now the doors don't shut properly and it
is forever flopping open .

It has been known by my lovely family
as Mums' Failed Cupboard .

Do you have a crafting disaster you can share ?
Please leave details so we can come and mock visit you.

Please share your disasters
you just might make me feel better !

  1. I have heaps of disasters...like yesterday when the new toy fell into the canal during a photo shoot...

  2. WOW Clare... Awesome painting! Love it. You should google "straightening hinged doors". I know my husband has packed out the lower hinges with paper before. You might be able to fix them. I have banished all creative disasters from my memory, pretending they never happened. It's easier that way. : )

  3. Ah that's so funny, very funny indeed. I often end up "repurposing" my disasters into something else. I'll see what I can come up for you!!

  4. I just did a 'disaster' search on my blog. Pages of posts. Obviously a word I use plentifully and sure to be represented in craft (I don't remember - holding ears and lalalalalala-ing).

    Fabulous painted chookery...

  5. Hey Clare! Oh dear ... yes ... I think anyone who puddles in craft has had disasters along the way! While most of my "Oops!" can be slavaged in some form, occassionally something is just thrown in the cupboard never to be seen again ... if I can't see it, it didn't happen! Tee! Hee! Hee! Hopefully your creative mojo comes back soon, until it does, find a warm cosy corner, make a cup of tea and enjoy some pretty craft books and magazines ... works for me! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS

  8. Oh dear Clare... I can just imagine the scene when you realised you had painted the doors upside down. Haven't we all done something like that before! At least you were able to still use the doors.

I hope your E.T.I.T.T.T.S. disappears really soon Clare.[giggle].

  9. Oh my friend... you made me laugh.. and you usually do.
I can't imagine how you felt when you found those gorgeous doors upside down :O!!

This is why my crafting motto is 'Go with the Flow'... it allows for salvaging, repurposing and happy accidents!
    You go girl. You rock!!

  10. I love your painted chookies. You must have wanted to scream when you realised. When I was at college I did this fantastic sculpture of a baby harp seal...oh I was so pleased with myself...ego out of control. Getting it out of the kiln I knocked the tail off and it smashed into many bits. The air was blue and as it was an assessment piece I nearly had a cardiac arrest. When I recovered I repaired it with tile grout glued it to a woodturned board....took me hours and hours. Would you believe I got honours and an offer to purchase it.OH! I was tempted but couldn't do it. Take yourself out on a date and be kind to yourself....you'll surface on the other side soon.
Sorry about the book I've just written.

  15. Pity I can't post my Step Dad over there as he'd know a way to make your cupboard doors fit. The obvious would be if you can turn the cupboard upside down, take the doors off and then when you put them back on right side up on the turned over cupboard they would be on the opposite sides to where they are now. Hard to explain but make a mock cardboard cupboard up from a cereal box and try it out.
The painted doors are terrific and your family should praise the artist in you and forget about the fact you aren't a carpenter also.
I don't have any creative disasters to show you but I will admit to having many a mishap with one way patterned fabric and it being recycled into something else. Some things you just can't fix by unpicking :(.
    Cheers,
    Robyn

  16. I LOVE IT - yes I've had plenty of those days and disasters - and not all craft related, sorry to say. I love your chooks and laughed out loud about painting them upside down - I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one!

  18. Hi Clare, how about a knitting story to cheer you up.

Back when i was pregnant with Amy (now a mum herself) I sewed a lace baby cardigan together that I had just finished knitting.

When I noticed one of the sleeves had been sewn on, inside out.

It was a very late night after I undid the sewing and then resewed it on the right way.

I now pin everything before I sew any knitting together.
