My treasure this week is this grubby old scrabble board .
My mum has moved into a nursing home and
things from her home have been shared around .
Of great interest was this board .
You probably can't see too well in this photo
but every little space around the board has
been written on .
It became an unspoken rule that the board
itself not be written on but around the outside
was fair game .
It has such silly stuff written like who was the
slowest player , who was the biggest whinger , biggest cheat
or just who was playing that day .
We spent many , many hours playing on this board
and drinking too much tea and laughing so much .
I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers and every one of us
had a great time on the weekend reading
the board and reminiscing .
I was lucky enough to score the treasured board
but I did promise to get it framed and
then we will all share it .
Clearly this board would mean nothing
to anyone else but to my family it is priceless !
We'd love to see your treasures , come and play along .
What a wonderful treasure!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful what a lovely idea to have it framed. We were playing scrabble last night such a good game. I am impressed with all the brothers and sisters as I am an only child and always wanted to belong to a big family. Off to work now will check out all treasures later today. Charmaine
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous family memory. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet. And great that it hasn't fallen apart yet either. My similar treasure is a monopoly game that my brother and I bought for $8 back in the days when we only got 20 - 50 cents pocket money. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet. It definitely looks well loved.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous treasure! When you frame it you could have a few words spelt in the middle with the tiles like your family name or what the board means to you.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Treasure Clare.
ReplyDeleteI've added my treasure to your list :-)
Great to have - I love the way there is writing around the edges - what wonderful memories!

There's alot of family love there. Yes, a definite treasure!
ReplyDeleteFantastic treasure Clare and framing it is a wonderful way to display it...
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful treasure to have. I love that you are going to frame it. I have the same set from my grandparents, but it's not got the same personality as yours! Although we already have a new game of it, I just couldn't say no when it was offered to me. The wooden pieces are so nice and natural.
ReplyDeleteIt would look fabulous framed and its a special treasure thats for sure :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic Clare! We had a family scrabble board just like it, with ivory tiles, but my Grandfather threw it out! He knew he was in DEEP trouble *lol* toni xxx
ReplyDeleteNow that is a treasure. Just priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love this board. What great memories it holds for your family!

It's a real treasure xx
That is very, very cool - you know people are decorating with old game boards, they're hot stuff in the collecting world! Yours will be perfect framed. And the best part is, the memories every time you look at it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely treasure, Clare! And what a great idea to frame it and pass it around....

ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful treasure Clare. I have a Scrabble Board like that that was my Mum's.We spent many many hours playing together. Mum would try and use Dutch words. LOL Many happy memories.
ReplyDeleteThere is now a new word game called Banana Grams.
That would be so sentimental Clare, and I can see your name on the bottom in big blue letters circled in red. So, who was the biggest cheat?
ReplyDeletePriceless for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Jsut a new follower saying Hi!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just awesome! It's sad when parenst have to go into nursing homes though. I haven't had this happen yet, thankfully, but my Grandfather and Great-Grandma did, and it was just a sad time. I hope your Mum settles in and learns to enjoy her life there. Family is very important! You shoule frame all the scrabble tiles around the outside too, maybe on the frame itself!
ReplyDeleteHugs!!
I love playing Scrabble and I love your old board complete with messages.
ReplyDeleteI'm playing along again. It's so much fun.
What a fabulous board, it will look great framed. Very treasured memories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment yesterday. I'm a bit uncomfortable, but not too bad in the grand scheme of things.
I love your Scrabble Board, Clare. Such happy memories! You're such a good "writer" too. Your descriptions are great!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, what a fabulous memory of your childhood. I really enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you must have had over the years and what great memories.
ReplyDeleteYour board is so cool! I wish I had those wooden holder, they would look really good on a counter/shelf with different words all the time.
ReplyDeleteI was away with my mother and father and my two kids "down the farm" this weekend ... not that far from you and got roped into playing "Upwords" with mum as usual!
