A friend of mine was clearing out her mother's shed when she came across this treasure . She told me she thought it was so tacky that I would love it . She was right I do ! The cover of the shade was so old and brittle ,pieces would fall off when it was touched . It needed a good clean and a new cover and now it's back to it's former glory and as a bonus it works ! In the top photo I think the lady even looks happier with her new cover she may even be as happy as me with it !
What a treasure and you've made it look new again!
ReplyDeleteOh My Clare...she is soooo pretty!!
ReplyDeleteShe has a good home now and she looks very peaceful under her new shade. I am in a very "blue fabric" mood at the moment, so love the way you have done the shade.
Happy Crafting

Hi Clare,
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable lamp! I love old and tacky or let's say "Kitch". I have a friend who collects bambi things and I found an Bambi lamp some time ago. The old rubber type. Remember them! And it still worked also. BONUS! Your lady looks very pleased with you. ENJOY! 8-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty! My grandmother had two similar lamps on her nightstand in the 50's, so she is extra beautiful to me! you did a perfect job renewing her "umbrella"
ReplyDeleteHi Clare,
ReplyDeleteYeah, I would have jumped at the chance of owning her as well.
Good job on the new lamp shade.
Hugs,
Anna
Oh she's so tacky. But I love her!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHer new shade looks and treat. I hope you've found a ladylike position for her in your house. She seems like she needs to be somewhere raised, pedistal style. I think that is the least that she would expect.
Thanks for playing on my blog.

ReplyDeleteHi Clare, that's some lamp!! So you're in Gundagai!! We are in Canberra with my husband's best mate in Gundagai, so we visit often. Our children beg us to move to the country, well more country than north ACT, one day when my husband retires. Enjoy your lovely town, love Posie
ReplyDeleteBy accident I came on your blog, and I don't regret it. You make nice stuff and it's never the same.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have someone thinking of you before they throw their junk away.
ReplyDeleteI thought my last comment may have been taken as that the lamp was junk. Sorry if it did, I meant that it is a pure treasure even if someone else did not think so. Have a great week. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful lamp...and you have made it look great!!!
ReplyDeleteI remember my AUnty used to have a lamp like htat that I was in awe of when I was a little girl. Yours looks so pretty with its new gingham cover.

I have found several of these lady lamps at boot sales and antique stores, I have always admired them, but felt daunted by the work needed to fix them up! You have done a beautiful job, the new lamp shade matches the base fantastically!
ReplyDeleteMy mum found one of them a few years back and she sat ( shadeless at our door for teh longest time) she really does look a lot happier now!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your treasure...lucky you!
